Founded in 1996, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada (AMJ) is the Canadian branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community subscribes to a form of Islam, founded in 1889, which is currently practiced by millions of people in more than 200 countries. Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada is based in Vaughan, Ontario.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada hosts an annual convention, Jalsa Salana. Believers gather to pray, welcome new members, and remember those who recently passed away. Jalsa Salana is a three-day event with tens of thousands in attendance each year.
AMJ also operates the Ahmadiyya Parliamentary Friendship Group. This committee works with several Members of Parliament to raise awareness about human rights violations and freedom of religion worldwide.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada hosts annual community and fundraising events, such as Canada Day celebrations, Run for Canada, and Muslims for Remembrance. Run for Canada is a youth-led event that raises funds for local initiatives through walks and runs. AMJ reports that its chapters have raised over $1m for local charities. Muslims for Remembrance is a national campaign launched in 2011 to show support for the Canadian Armed Forces.
In August 2022, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada, in collaboration with Humanity First Canada, launched a fundraising campaign to help those affected by the Pakistan floods.
