About Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at Canada:
Founded in 1996, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada (AMJ) is the Canadian branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community subscribes to a form of Islam founded in 1889, which is currently practiced by millions of people in more than 200 countries. Its followers believe that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, India was the second coming of Jesus of Nazareth. AMJ highlights that it also endorses the separation of religion and state, universal human rights, and education and empowerment for women. Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada is based in Vaughan and reports that it has 65 local chapters across the country.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada hosts an annual convention, Jalsa Salana. Believers gather to pray together, welcome new members, and remember those who recently passed away. Jalsa Salana is a three-day event with tens of thousands in attendance each year.
AMJ also operates the Ahmadiyya Parliamentary Friendship Group, a committee that works with several Members of Parliament to raise awareness. The group focuses on awareness surrounding violations of human rights and freedom of religion around the world.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada hosts annual community and fundraising events, such as Canada Day celebrations, Run for Canada, and Muslims for Remembrance. Run for Canada is a youth-led event that raises funds for local initiatives through walks and runs. AMJ reports that its chapters have now raised over $1m for local charities. Muslims for Remembrance is a national campaign launched in 2011 to show support for the Canadian Armed Forces.
