About Children's Joy Foundation :

Founded in 2013, Children’s Joy Foundation (CJF) raises money to help children in the Philippines and Canada who are poor, neglected, or abused. CJF grants money to Children’s Joy Foundation Inc. which is an organization working directly with children in the Philippines. Funds from CJF have been used to construct a building to house orphaned and homeless children. In F2016, CJF granted $491k to Children’s Joy Foundation Inc. Granting increased 366% from F2014 to F2015 and fell 35% from F2015 to F2016.

CJF also grants money to schools in Surrey, British Columbia to fund food programs. Breakfast and lunch are offered to poor students. CJF reports that the cost of providing breakfast is 90 cents per student and lunch is $2.25.

Students have reported individuals on York University and University of British Columbia campuses who claim to be fundraising for Children’s Joy Foundation. It is unclear whether these individuals are in fact associated with the charity. Complaints have been made regarding donations being solicited in Yellowknife and there are reports of “aggressive” requests for donations in Alberta.

Financial Review:

Ci has used the most recent financial statements available at the time that this profile was created. The CRA recommends that charities with more than $250k in revenue have professionally audited financial statements, however the CJF statements are unaudited.

Children’s Joy Foundation is a small charity with donations of $601k in F2016. Administrative and fundraising costs are 12% of revenues. For every dollar donated, 88 cents go to the cause which is within Ci’s reasonable range for overhead spending. Of the total fundraising and administration costs calculated by Ci, 25% was allocated to accounting and legal costs. CJF has $27k in funding reserves which could cover granting at the F2016 level for less than a month.

This charity profile has been sent to Children’s Joy Foundation for review. Changes and edits may be forthcoming.
