OVERVIEW
About Scarborough Health Network Foundation:
Scarborough Health Network Foundation is a 3-star charity. It has below average disclosure with a C results reporting grade. Its overhead spending and funding reserves are within Ci's reasonable range.
SHNF was founded in 1977. It raises money for Scarborough Health Network (SHN). SHNF reports that Scarborough has long received less public health funding than other parts of the GTA, despite serving 25% of Toronto's population. SHN runs three hospitals and eight sites across Scarborough. The three hospitals are Scarborough General, Birchmount, and Centenary. It is the third-largest community health network in Ontario and serves over 850,000 people. SHN performs over 64,000 surgeries and delivers over 4,000 babies each year. SHNF runs three programs: Major Capital Projects, Equipment and Infrastructure, and Innovative Programs. In F2025, SHNF granted $29.9m to the hospital.
Major Capital Projects was SHNF's largest program in F2025. It accounted for $23.3m or 78% of program spending. It funds large construction and building projects across SHN's three hospitals. In F2025, SHNF opened a new Community Mental Health Centre and the Northpine Diagnostic Imaging Centre at Scarborough General Hospital.
Innovative Programs accounted for $3.6m or 12% of program spending in F2025. Key projects included the Northpine Surgery Quality Improvement Project and the Weston Patient Navigator Program. SHNF does not provide additional details on this program.
Equipment and Infrastructure accounted for $3.0m or 10% of program spending. It funds medical devices and facility upgrades. Key projects included the Deepa and Narinder Lal Emergency Department renovation at Scarborough General Hospital. In F2025, SHNF purchased new equipment for breast cancer surgery, sinus surgery, and ICU dialysis.

Scarborough and Rouge Hospital (SRH) Foundation was formed through a merger of the legacy The Scarborough Hospital Foundation and Rouge Valley Health System Foundation in December 2016. We appreciate Charity Intelligence’s review and will consider the findings thoroughly. Our organization is currently undertaking a major community and stakeholder consultation to inform an organizational rebrand that will chart a course to transform health care in Scarborough.
