Founded in 1982, Ronald McDonald House British Columbia and Yukon (RMHBY) provides a home away from home for sick children and their families across British Columbia and the Yukon. RMHBY is one of 12 Ronald McDonald House chapters across Canada that help families of children diagnosed with serious illness or injury when they need to travel for their child’s treatment. RMHBY’s House has 73 available bedrooms and is located on the BC Children’s Hospital campus. The House provides play areas, meals, and various types of therapy. As well, the charity provided 683 hours of music and art therapy to 1,840 participants across 219 session.
RMHBY’s Family Room is available for all families with a child under the age of 18 receiving treatment at Surrey Memorial Hospital. The Family Room is located within the Surrey Memorial Hospital beside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Family Room has four sleeping rooms available for families with the most critical needs. The rooms cannot be booked in advance or for any length of time and there is no charge to use the rooms. In F2022, 310 families stayed at RMHBY’s Family Room.
