OVERVIEW

About Toronto Star Children's Charities:

Toronto Star Children's Charities is a one-star charity with a low results reporting grade and funding reserves that can cover less than two years of program costs. The charity is not financially transparent.

Registered in 1967, Toronto Star Children’s Charities (TSCC) helps underprivileged children access gifts and summer camp. The charity runs two programs: the Santa Claus Fund and the Fresh Air Fund. TSCC reports it spent $3.1m on its programs and grants in 2023.

The Santa Claus Fund received 62% of program spending. This program gives low-income children a gift over the holidays. The gift box contains warm clothing, a toy, a book, dental hygiene items, and a treat. The charity states that this may be the only gift they receive during the holidays. TSCC reports it gave 50,000 gift boxes to 50,000 children in 2023.

The Fresh Air Fund received 38% of program spending. TSCC grants money to summer camps to subsidize fees for underprivileged children. The charity states that summer camp enables children to escape the sweltering summer heat and the harsh realities of life. In 2024 the charity provided grants to 116 summer camps but does not report the number of campers subsidized.
