OVERVIEW
About WCPD Foundation:
WCPD Foundation is a 1-Star Charity. It is not financially transparent. It also has a low results reporting grade, meaning it does not report on the results of its programs or activities. Before you give, read Charity Intelligence's report.
Started in 2006, WCPD Foundation is a public donor advised fund. It helps arrange subscription, donation, and sale of flow through share private placements through institutional investors. It also helps Canadian donors reduce their tax burden by facilitating flow-through shares. It strives to help Canadian donors and charities get the highest returns possible. WCPD Foundation also helps donors with legacy giving. It helps clients with wealth transfer so they can donate more to charity and decrease estate taxes.
Since 1954, the Canadian Revenue Agency has offered a 100% tax deduction on flow-through shares. These are stocks issued by junior mining companies in Canada. Clients purchase these flow-through shares. Each dollar invested in these shares is 100% tax deductible. The shares are then donated and immediately sold at a discount for cash. The charity receives the cash proceeds and issues a tax-receipt to the donor. By combining these two tax policies, WCPD Foundation helps donors decrease the amount they pay in taxes.
WCPD Foundation has facilitated over $250m in charitable giving. It has issued over 7,000 cheques to other charities as directed by clients. Since 2006, WCPD’s flow-through share financings have resulted in more than 550 private placements with over 150 issuers.
WCPD Foundation’s website directs users to real estate opportunities at Grand Isle Resort in The Bahamas. In 2012, WCPD Foundation’s Founder and President Peter Nicholson purchased 31 villas (40%) at Grand Isle Resort. He is the property’s largest shareholder. It is unclear how these real estate opportunities relate to WCPD Foundation’s work. The website also directs users to learn more about Ocean Sunset Chalets in Nova Scotia. It is unclear how this relates to WCPD Foundation’s work.
