Founded in 1993, Ronald McDonald House Ottawa (RMHO), formally known as National Capital Children’s Oncology Care, is a home away from home for sick children and their families. RMHO is one of 12 Ronald McDonald house chapters across Canada helping the families of children diagnosed with serious illness or injury when they must travel for their child's treatment.
Ronald McDonald House Ottawa runs a family room in Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and operates a house near the hospital where families can stay.
RMHO’s house offers private rooms, a communal kitchen, game rooms, and space to relax outside the hospital. It runs a meal program where volunteers come in to cook for the house guests. RMHO reports that it has 14 guest suites to offer families.
RMHO’s family room is a place where family members can do laundry, heat up food, shower and rest when they can’t leave the hospital. It also has four bedrooms with private bathrooms.
