OVERVIEW

About Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation:

Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation is a 2-star rated charity. The charity is not financially transparent. It does not have its recent financial statements on its website. It has a below average results reporting grade and its overhead spending is outside of Ci’s reasonable range. Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation has $5.5m in reserve funds, which can cover a year and eight months of program costs.

Founded in 2000, Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation (MCCF) promotes physical activity and a healthy lifestyle for underprivileged children in Quebec. The charity reports that 93% of Canadian children are not active enough. This could be because of lack of skills, time or means to partake in sport. It adds that many children from less fortunate backgrounds suffer from motor development delays. Additionally, inactive kids are at higher risk of developing chronic diseases. Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation reports that 1/3 of kids stop sports during their teenage years. It adds that girls that do not play sports at age ten only have a 10% chance of being active at age 25.

To help underprivileged children, Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation runs sport-related programs. It also donates to other organizations with the same goal.

Bleu Blanc Bouge – 64% of program spending ($2.1m)

Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation funds the Bleu Blanc Bouge program, which makes hockey more accessible to children in Quebec. One of its main projects is building ice rinks around Quebec to encourage physical activity. Since the project began in 2008, the charity has built 13 ice skating rinks. The Bleu Blanc Bouge program also offers skating lessons for children. Over 500 children take these lessons every winter. The program hosts ball hockey activities, which 1,730 people from 36 schools have participated in. The program also offers a summer camp and a web platform for teachers.

Donations to other organizations – 18% of program spending ($593k)

In F2022, Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation donated $593k to other organizations that support a similar cause. The organizations that received the biggest donations were Patro Laval ($145k), Trevor Willians Kids Foundation ($30k) and Friendship Circle of Quebec ($27k).

Charity-run sport programs – 18% of program spending ($575k)

Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation runs three sport programs for kids. The Loge Jo and his Champions program lets children attend Canadiens games at the Bell Centre. Around 350 children take part in this program yearly. The To the Game Friends! program distributes donated game tickets to underprivileged children. The Champions for Life program helps kids develop basic sport abilities. It operates after school in about 50 schools in Quebec.
