About Islamic Circle of North America:

Founded in 1970, Islamic Circle of North America’s (ICNA) mission is to “provide immediate response in times of disaster, and to implement programs that alleviate human suffering.” It aims to achieve its mission through its international programs: Orphan Sponsorship (21% of annual program costs), Global Zabiha (13%), Orphanage Construction (6%), Disaster and Emergency Relief (4%), Healthcare (4%), Educational Support (3%), Water for Life (2%), Microfinancing (0.4%), and Women’s Empowerment (0.1%). ICNA also operates domestic programs, which makes up the remaining 46% of program costs, including: Food Banks, Syrian Refugee Sponsorship, Domestic Zakat Programs, Family Counselling, Seniors’ Support, Matrimonial Support, Funeral Support, Foster Parenting, Youth Leadership Development, and a Women’s Shelter.

For ICNA’s international programs in F2016, the Orphan Sponsorship program provided over 2800 orphan children with support in 11 countries. Disaster and Emergency Relief has spent over $213,000 on projects. The Global Zabiha program provided fresh Qurbani meat to 750,000 people in 16 countries, The Healthcare program spent over $211,000 on hospitals, clinic construction, and medical supplies. Educational Support disbursed over $160,000 on projects. Water for Life invested over $90,000 on clean water projects. Finally, the Women’s Empowerment program provided aid to over 100 women in need.

For ICNA’s domestic programs in F2016, 53,000 people have been served through 10 food banks. The Syrian Refugee Sponsorship program brought 93 people into Canada and processed over 100 applications. Financial Review:

Islamic Circle of North America is a big-cap charity with $6.0m in F2015 donations (including $1.5m in goods in kind donations). Its administrative costs are 9% of revenues and its fundraising costs are 1% of donations. For every dollar donated, 90 cents go towards ICNA’s programs, falling within Ci’s reasonable range. The charity has $2.7m in funding reserves, resulting in a program cost coverage ratio of 51%. This means that ICNA can cover 6 months of its annual program costs using its existing reserves, indicating a need for funding.

In F2015, ICNA reported $1.3m in total compensation expenses, however it reports in its F2015 T3010 CRA filing that it does not have any paid full-time or part-time employees.
