OVERVIEW
About Fondation 24H Tremblant:
Founded in 2001, Fondation 24H Tremblant organizes a large-scale sporting event in the Mont-Tremblant region of Québec. Fondation 24H Tremblant raises funds for other fundraising charities that support sick and underprivileged children. The foundation grants to children's medical research, health care and social aid.
The main event is an annual 24-hour ski, walk or run relay competition at Mont-Tremblant. Registered teams compete while raising funds. Each participant needs to raise at least $300 to join the relay. In 2021, Fondation 24H Tremblant aims to organize both on-site and remote events.
In F2019 Fondation 24H Tremblant granted $3.2m to fundraising charities. The recipients included Charles-Bruneau Cancer Centre Foundation (56% of total grants), and Ottawa Senators Foundation (22% of total grants). The remaining funds went to Tremblant Foundation (14%), Centre de Pédiatrie (7%), and Foundation Evenko (1%).
In 2020 Fondation 24H Tremblant reports three grant recipients: Fondation Charles-Bruneau, Fondation Tremblant, and CHEO Foundation. However, the charity's T3010 filing with the CRA reports 2020 grant recipients as Charles-Bruneau Foundation, Ottawa Senators Foundation, and Centre de Pédiatrie.
Fondation 24H Tremblant's grants to the CHEO Foundation supported the publication of 535 research findings by the CHEO. In F2018, Fondation 24H Tremblant's grants helped 122 children receive social services.

Finances
Fondation 24H Tremblant is not financially transparent. Its audited financial statements are not posted on its website nor provided when requested. Charity Intelligence's financial review uses the 2019 audited financial statements. This is the most recent information we have received from the Charities Directorate from our request for information. The Charities Directorate has redacted Fondation 24H Tremblant's auditor, one of its grant recipients, and Fondation 24H Tremblant's related party.
Fondation 24H Tremblant has donations of $4.1m in F2019. Administrative costs are 3% of revenues and fundraising costs are 38% of donations and special events. This results in total overhead spending of 41%. For every dollar donated, 59 cents go to the cause. This is outside of Ci’s reasonable range for overhead spending. This is an improvement from over F2017.
Fondation 24H Tremblant has $117k in funding reserves. The charity could cover 4% or around half a month of annual program costs with current reserves.
The charity does not report any full-time or part-time employees on its T3010 filing with the CRA.
The audited financial statements report related party transactions between Mont-Tremblant resort and Fondation 24H Tremblant. Included in revenues are $323k in F2019 and $289k in F2018 from Mont-Tremblant resort (goods-in-kind received). Fondation 24H Tremblant paid Mont-Tremblant resort $666k in F2019 and $595k in F2018 for expenses (mostly lodging and lift tickets).
This charity report is an update that has been sent to Fondation 24H Tremblant for review. Changes and edits may be forthcoming.

In December 20, 2017, La Presse and CBC Radio Montreal raise attention about Fondation 24H Tremblant fundraising costs. Fondation 24H replied that it calculates fundraising costs a different way. Fondation 24H Tremblant says that Charity Intelligence's method of calculating funding raising costs is flawed.
Fondation 24H Tremblant comments that corporate sponsors and participants clearly understand that sponsorship and registration fees are used solely to cover the costs of the event, and do not support helping children. In its audited financial statements, Fondation 24H Tremblant reports sponsorship and registration fees. These are reported as "special events" revenues. It is important that sponsors and participants are informed, and the fees and costs are transparent.
Fundraising charities commonly hold events, like walks and runs. To provide donors with consistent information, Charity Intelligence uses the CRA Charities Directorate formula for calculating fundraising costs.
Canada’s Charity Directorate gives charities clear instructions on how to report fundraising costs:
“the fundraising ratio is a global calculation for a fiscal period, determined by dividing fundraising expenditures by fundraising revenue”.
Fundraising costs should only be calculated on fundraising revenues and should exclude other sources of revenue like government funding, investment income, and business profits.
Using the charity’s annual return, the T3010, the Charities Directorate instructs charities to calculate fundraising cost ratios by “Divid[ing] the total fundraising expenditure amount on Line 5020 (fundraising expenses) by the sum of lines 4500 (receipted donations) and Line 4630 (fundraising revenue not reported in 4500).”
