About Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre:

Founded in 1979, the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre (MHMC) is North America's first historical Holocaust museum. MHMC collects, preserves and shares artifacts left from the Holocaust. Its mission is to "educate people of all ages and backgrounds about the Holocaust, while sensitizing the public to the universal perils of anti-Semitism, racism, hate and indifference." In F2015, over 16,700 people visited the Centre, which was 13% higher than F2014. This included 4,600 guided tours and 10,000 school visitors.

MHMC holds the largest collection of artifacts and archives on Canada's Holocaust history. Its collection of 11,200 items includes 5,300 text documents and 1,400objects. 370 of its items on display are originals donated by Montreal Holocaust survivors. In F2015, the centre received 202 new donations. To preserve this collection and develop a global reach, MHMC has digitized over 82% of its collection. Further, in F2015, MHMC recorded 25 life histories of Montreal survivors.

In F2015, the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre organized 42 events, reaching 6,841 people. Further, the 2014 Holocaust Education Series, focused on the theme of justice, reached 1,813 people through its 17 events across Montreal. In F2015, 2,100 people attended MHMC's commemorative events to preserve the memory of all those murdered during the Holocaust and honouring the survivors.

Financial Review:

Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre is a small-cap charity, with donations of $782k in F2015. Its administrative costs are 11% of revenues and its fundraising costs are 7% of donations. For every $1 donated to the charity, 82 cents is put towards its programs, falling within Ci's reasonable range. MHMC's funding reserves of $722k includes $147k in donor-endowed funds. This results in a program cost coverage ratio, excluding donor-endowed funds, of 80%. This means that the charity can cover 10 months of its annual programs using its existing reserves.
