OVERVIEW

About Gatineau Health Foundation:

Gatineau Health Foundation is a 2-star rated charity with best practice in financial transparency and below average accountability to donors as seen in the C+ results reporting grade. For every dollar donated to this charity, 66 cents go to the cause. This is just within Ci's reasonable range for overhead spending.

Founded in 1984, Gatineau Health Foundation raises money to support the Outaouais Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS), a hospital and social service provider in the region of Outaouais. The foundation hopes to improve the quality of health care patients receive. In F2021, the foundation granted $1.9m to the hospital, a decrease from $3.2m in F2020. Funds collected are used to purchase medical equipment, support prevention programs, and fund investment projects. In F2021, the charity allocated 55% of program spending to hospital environment and oncology, 22% to support for seniors, 17% to mental health and addiction, 4% to youth services, and 2% to social services and research.

Gatineau Health Foundation’s granting activities allowed the hospital to purchase spinal endoscopy equipment, which will allow surgeons to perform spinal endoscopies without incision. Thanks to grants, the hospital was also able to purchase a portable hearing screening device. The charity reports that the hospital was able to complete the gynecological oncology surgery operating theatre and ultrasound-guided brachytherapy for prostate cancer. This equipment will allow patients to access necessary procedures closer to home, and in a more timely manner.
