OVERVIEW

About Fondation CHU de Québec:

Fondation du CHU de Québec is a 1-star rated charity with poor financial transparency and below average accountability to donors as seen in the C results reporting grade. Its program cost coverage ratio is extremely high. Current funding reserves can cover 16 years of granting at the F2021 level.

Founded in 1984, Fondation du CHU de Québec raises money for equipment purchases, research, improvements in care, and professional training at the CHU de Québec healthcare network. CHU de Québec includes five hospitals which collectively serve a population of almost 2 million people: Centre Hospitalier de L’Université Laval, l’Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jesus, l’Hôpital du Saint-Sacrement, l’Hôpital Saint-Francois d’Assise, and l’Hôtel-Dieu de Québec.

In F2021, the foundation granted $6.0m to CHU de Québec, of which 65% was allocated to research, 20% to equipment, 9% to training, and 6% to patient care. This is a 50% decrease in granting from F2020. In F2021, the charity received 202 requests for project funding from healthcare professionals and approved 252 projects. Highlights of projects funded in F2021 include the purchase of a mobile radiology machine that allows for analysis of tissue biopsies removed during surgery, reducing time of procedures. Four expandable "OOK SNOW ALL" beds were also purchased for the pediatric palliative wing to allow parents to remain close to their children during treatment. Current research funded by the foundation includes work on developing a national database that tracks symptoms of covid-19 positive patients presenting to the emergency department.
