OVERVIEW

About Fondation Québécoise du Cancer:

Founded in 1980, Fondation Québécoise du Cancer (FQC) aims to support people in Quebec living with cancer by focusing on their daily needs and concerns. FQC reports that cancer is the leading cause of death in Quebec, with an estimated 56,800 diagnoses every year. It is estimated that in 2020, 22,400 people in the province will die from cancer. FQC programs include Accommodation, Education and Awareness, Info-Cancer, and Well-being services.

Accommodation is FQC’s major program, making up 54% of program costs in F2020. The program provides affordable housing for those who must travel to receive cancer treatment. The charity currently has five locations in Montreal, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières, Levis, and Gatineau. In F2020, the accommodations had 14,445 overnight stays, which is 41% of total capacity. In F2021, Fondation Québécoise du Cancer plans to open an accommodation center in Quebec City.

Education and Awareness represented 25% of FQC’s program spending in F2020. The program aims to increase public awareness of cancer in Quebec. In F2020, the charity had 94,668 visits to its website.

Info-Cancer accounted for 13% of program costs in F2020. This program helps people access the information they need through online resources and a helpline. The charity’s online library has 2,200 cancer resources. In F2020, FQC responded to 6,495 requests for information.

Well-being Services accounted for the remaining 9% of program spending in F2020. The charity offers services such as art therapy, massage therapy, and kinesiology sessions for cancer patients. FQC reports that 5,988 people participated in an activity in F2020.
