OVERVIEW
About Canadian Olympic Foundation:
The Canadian Olympic Foundation is a 3-star charity. It has below average disclosure with a B- results reporting grade. It holds reserves within Ci’s reasonable range. For every dollar donated to the Canadian Olympic Foundation, 82 cents are available to go to the cause.
Founded in 2007, the Canadian Olympic Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC). The charity raises funds to support Team Canada athletes at all stages of their Olympic journey, covering costs such as coaching, training, sports science, and medical support that the COC's public funding does not fully cover. It also administers a range of athlete awards and bursaries, including direct-to-athlete programs like the Great to Gold program and the Team Canada Podium Awards, which help offset training and competition expenses for current and next-generation athletes. In 2024, 179 Team Canada athletes and coaches received funding through Canadian Olympic Foundation awards and bursaries.
The Canadian Olympic Foundation runs four programs: Sport Excellence, Pathway Development, Athlete and Coach Engagement, and Team Canada Impact Agenda. In the fiscal year ending December 2025, the charity spent $7.4m on its grants. It does not disclose how these grants were distributed across its four programs.
At the time of this update, the Canadian Olympic Foundation's website had yet to be updated; thus, the results below reflect 2024 figures from its website and data from its 2023 impact report.
Sport Excellence funds training, competitions, sport science, and Olympic operations, delivered through Canada's National Sport Organizations (NSOs). In 2024, the Canadian Olympic Foundation granted $2.1m to NSOs and sport partners. In 2023, the COC supported 180 projects through its investments in NSOs.
Athlete and Coach Engagement provides direct support to athletes and coaches through initiatives, awards, and bursaries. In 2024, the Canadian Olympic Foundation granted $1.9m in athlete bursaries. This included six Indigenous bursary awards valued at $5k each. The Foundation also granted Team Canada Podium Awards, which gave Paris 2024 and Milano-Cortina 2026 medalists $5k per medal earned.
Pathway Development funds programs that identify and develop young athletes on track to become future Olympians. In 2024, the Canadian Olympic Foundation supported 926 athletes through NextGen grants. The Future Olympians Fund supported 48 athletes and 54 coaches from 2013-2023. At the 2024 Youth Olympic Games, 79 athletes aged 14-18 competed for Team Canada across 12 sports. In 2023, Olympic Day Grants drew 581 eligible school applicants, with six grants awarded totalling $30k (grants that helped schools fund programs to boost student access and inclusion in sport).
Team Canada Impact Agenda is a set of initiatives focused on making sport safe, inclusive, and accessible for young people, organized around three areas: Podium, Play, and Planet. In 2024, the Canadian Olympic Foundation granted $4.1m to the COC to support its priority programs. Since its inception in 2019, the OLY Canada Legacy Grants program (grants supporting Olympian-led community projects) has funded 32 projects, investing $245k in total.

Note: 1. T3010: The Canadian Olympic Foundation's audited financial statements do not clearly distinguish between fundraising and donations revenue, or between fundraising and administrative costs. Ci used the charity's T3010 filing to determine these allocations. However, COF's 2025 filing is not yet available. On the revenue side, Ci allocated the charity's combined fundraising and donations revenue to donations. On the expense side, Ci reported fundraising and administrative costs combined for 2025. 2. Deferred Revenue: Ci adjusted for deferred revenue. This affected total revenue by ($204k) in 2025, $nil in 2024, and $nil in 2023. 3. Investment Management Fees: Ci reported investment income net of investment management fees. This affected total revenue and expenses by ($79k) in 2025, ($74k) in 2024, and ($82k) in 2023.
